Welcome to Scientific Psychological Solutions
This service aims to enhance people’s lives and experiences through evidence-based approaches.
About me
Dr Pooria Sarrami, General Psychologist, (he/him)
I am a registered psychologist and Senior Research Fellow with a diverse academic and clinical background, including medicine, psychology, and public health research. My journey began with a medical degree in Iran, followed by a PhD in the UK, focused on adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I later obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology in Australia and am registered as a general psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
As a psychologist, I have worked with a diverse range of clients, from adolescents to older adults, across various settings, including headspace and the NSW Quitline. I am passionate about working based on evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and I value a collaborative, client-centred therapeutic relationship with clients. In addition to English, I am also fluent in Persian (Farsi) and have experience working with Persian- and Dari-speaking clients.
I am passionate about helping people based on the best available scientific knowledge. My passion for scientific methods is reflected in my academic activities. Over the past two decades, I have contributed to more than 100 academic outputs, including peer-reviewed publications, books, and conference presentations across Australia, Europe, and the Middle East. My research has explored areas such as ADHD, online treatments for depression and anxiety, pain self-efficacy and engagement of patients in healthcare. I have also translated and published several psychology and health-related books in Persian, reflecting my commitment to accessible mental health education. I also hold adjunct academic positions at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where I supervise students and early-career professionals.
My best and perhaps most important service is integrating research into practice and providing scientific psychological solutions to my clients.
Services
I have limited hours available to provide psychological services via telehealth (video calls) or by phone.
Supporting Parents
Parents often have a wide range of concerns about their children—whether they’re caring for toddlers or navigating the teenage years. As a father, I understand both the worries and the hopes that come with parenting. I know how important it is to find reliable answers, reassurance, and guidance grounded in the best evidence-based practices. Just as importantly, I aim to help parents focus on their own wellbeing, so they can be the best role models possible for their children
Counselling with adolescents
Young people can experience many challenges, including friendship difficulties, stress, sadness, anxiety, or conflicts with others. Some may also begin dealing with addictions, such as vaping or smoking, from an early age. I’m passionate about supporting young people and their parents in navigating these challenges effectively. Depending on a young person’s age and circumstances, the level of parental involvement will vary. During our first session, we’ll explore the situation together so that, by the end, everyone has a clear understanding of what to expect; and hopefully, a greater sense of calm and confidence moving forward.
Psychotherapy with young or older adults
No matter your age, gender, education, or where you live, everyone can encounter challenges; relationship difficulties, loss, health concerns, addictions, or simply feeling sad, worried, or stressed. You don’t have to face these experiences alone. Together, we’ll work toward a clearer understanding of your situation and explore practical, evidence-based ways to create meaningful change in your life.
If this is your first time speaking with a psychologist, that’s completely fine. Our first session is a safe and friendly conversation where I’ll explain what to expect, outline confidentiality and its limits, and answer any questions you may have.
Educational services
I provide psychological education services tailored to each audience and topic. Whether you’re seeking a workshop, keynote presentation, or one-on-one academic support, feel free to get in touch for a free quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
I currently provide most of my sessions via telehealth. Many people find these methods convenient and helpful. I also provide limited face to face sessions on Saturdays.
If you can access a reliable internet connection on a computer or tablet, I recommend trying a telehealth session via video calls for your first session, at least.
No matter where you are, whether at home, at work, or in a public library, you can have your sessions, provided you can be in a private room or space in which you are not interrupted, or distracted. However, if those conditions are not met, your privacy and quality of your session would be at risk.
You may have a habit of talking on a hands-free phone while driving or making a video call while doing your chores simultaneously. However, a therapy session is different from other conversations, and it is best to devote your full attention to it. Therefore, avoid scheduling your session while you are also working or needing to do other tasks simultaneously. If you are distracted during the sessions, it will reduce the benefits you can gain from them. I may need to end a session if I believe your safety, privacy, or the integrity of the session is at risk.
I strongly recommend accessing a computer with a reliable internet connection. I may want to show you some illustrations, and you will need a bigger screen. Additionally, the internet connection on the phones can be variable depending on the reception in different locations.
Yes, I can also conduct the sessions in Persian.
Yes, I will reschedule or fully refund a session if you request the change at least 24 hours before the scheduled time.
I can only discuss your situation with you during your appointments. Therefore, if you need urgent help that you cannot wait till our appointment, please, please dial:
